Single Touch Payroll Phase 2

By now most, if not all employers have been using Single Touch Payroll (STP) to report their employees’ tax and super information to the ATO.

STP has now been expanded to include additional information to reduce the reporting burden for employers. Additional information includes details of the type of remuneration received (i.e. gross paid, paid leave, allowances, overtime etc.), details of PAYG Withholding for each employee as well as super liability information.

Some clients may have already received correspondence from the ATO regarding the transition to STP Phase 2.

The type of payroll reporting software used, will determine the commencement date for STP Phase 2. Some payroll software providers have been granted deferrals by the ATO as they develop their software for the additional reporting requirements.

  • Xero payroll software users have until 31 March 2023 to report their first STP Phase 2 pay run. See link below for more information

As you can see, the STP Phase 2 reporting dates vary depending on the payroll software used.
